Meet Emily, your editor.

Academic Editor Emily Harap IPEd Accredited

If there’s one thing to know about me, it’s that I’m enraptured with how words can create and transfer meaning.

Who I am.

I’m an English-language enthusiast who loves to work with words until they are clear and useful — and until they meet a writer’s purpose. I always want to advance my knowledge about language, which fascinates me more than anything else in the world.

What I am.

I’m an IPEd-accredited editor freelancing in several fields, such as academic, fiction and non-fiction. I’ve worked on countless kinds of texts — from PhD theses, government reports and resumes to fiction/non-fiction novels, textbooks and children’s/YA short stories.

My qualifications.

I have worked as an editor for over eight years, and my editing qualifications are accredited through the Institute of Professional Editors Limited (IPEd) in Australia. Not only am I a professional member of IPEd but also I am also a member of Writers Victoria and the Australian Linguistic Society.

My education.

I mentioned that I love English, right? Well, I’ve loved it so much that I studied three language-related degrees at university (and I still don’t believe three are enough).

  • BA Professional and Creative Writing, completed in 2010.

I chose ‘Introduction to Editing and Proofreading’ in my first year as one of my electives. I knew immediately that editing would be my life-long career.

  • MA Publishing and Editing, completed in 2012.

After my degree, one of my tutors recommended that I learn more about English by studying linguistics. I happily acted on that recommendation.

  • Bachelor of Arts (Languages), completed in 2017.

I learned as much as I could about linguistics, English and other languages. I’m excited that there’s much more to learn.
